Both presidents of both Corporations were interviewed.
As heads of Sony Ericsson, they both admitted that, realising that both companies couldn't be from more diverse cultures (and I want to emphasise the word BOTH), they both understood that there was a huge task in condensing this diversity.
They understood that the only way to forge ahead with this union was to 'take advantage' of this diversity and work towards getting the employees to together to work as a TEAM. (I.E 50/50).
They both also admitted that both companies suffered from making poor quality handsets and that this was the first thing that had to be addressed with the new company. The theory being, that you can spend millions on tech and design but if it fell apart in the consumers hands then all gains were lost.
Also, they both agree that consumers are less interested in 'how it works' and more interested in 'what it can do' (they obviously haven't visited this site
).
SE also believes that it takes time to design and launch a handset and that they expect the first years to be difficult.
The SE logo was designed in-house and it was intentional to have the 3D logo of the bouncing ball as this looks good on websites and such.
Their business plan is to be No 1 in the world. (Whether this means in sales or reputation is up to you).
Their focus is on multimedia. (From what I can gather this was what both companies failed to capitalise on pre-merge).
SE believes it is on the right track and that the main job is to ensure everyone pulls together to make SE No1 in Multimedia mobile, (Which is the Corporate Mantra soundbite!)
