I think (edit: But am in no way sure and most probably I'm wrong) the detection is based on IMEI so your phone will still be detected as a K750 and flashed with that firmware.

If you want to keep getting online update and "proper" support, flashing your phone to an unsupported firmware isn't the way to do it

If there is someone that can flash your phone, ask them if they will do future updates for free or a discounted price. You have to remember though, there may not be any future updates (look at the P900->P910i upgrade)

If the SEUS is based on IMEI then why when using davinci do you have to enter the correct CDA, surely the SEUS is based on other parameters in the phone???

@dpat: I believe the IMEI is checked first for sanity, then the CDA string so it knows what "version" of the phone it is.

I say this because I had a V800 that I'd flashed to a Z800i. I put in all the right CDA strings for a Z800i with the language pack I'd put on it.

I then tested it on SEUS, telling it that it was a V800 and to put the latest firmware on it. It did this, quite happily, flashing the phone back to a V800 for me.

No one really knows how SEUS works though I think, we're all just taking guesses at it. I could be totally wrong, I shouldn't say things without mentioning that I'm just guessing to the best of my ability.

I've edited my post above, nothing annoys me more than people posting guesswork as fact and I'm glad you pulled me up on doing it!

@Muppet,

I guess SEUS uses a similar nethos as Cruiser's "autodetect" be reading the TAC part of IMEI from OTP, hence detecting what model it is and hence making it impossible to fool SEUS unless you find and undertsand that CALL in the code

@gbrooks3,
that sounds more reasonable, but why the need to be so acurate on the CDA?

It definately queries the phones IMEI and CDA as i've traced the packets that it sends to the phone while its running. If anyone is interested these are the commands and their responses sent by the SEUS. The bits in brackets and angular brackets are my comments

So what exaclty do we need to complete the upgrade? In terms of software.

I'm looking to do this myself, can the normal data cable that comes with the K750i do this?

I beleive that Java cannot access the phones memory but could it access the flash memory? I am wondering if someone could write a smarter and nicer to use Media Player that would run as a java app. I am not too bothered with the flight mode although it is a nice idea.

Any thoughts?

just some info... the swedish company gsmteknik.se no longer offers the conversion from K750 to W800... it will be offered again as soon as the W800 mobile is out on the market...
