It would be interesting to see what modders could do with this, after all, linux runs on just about anything in one form or another. Even the Gamecube, and Nintendo made the disks spin backwards on it!
There's some really clever people out there... Imagine what could be possible...

I'm suprised by how little has been mentioned about how long it took for SE to bring the 990 to market, and then to get usable firmware. Will SE have a new phone ready to bring to market? Will Apple even be ready?
I learned a good lesson waiting for the 990, it's all vaporware until you can buy it.

I am so surprised and amused at people arguing so feverishly about a phone; claiming this and that ... and
none of you have even seen one OR used it.
So how can people claim it will kill this, it will kill that. Kind of pointless, don't you think? Wait till July when a few people with entirely too much money have bought one, taken pictures while opening it, used it and then blogged it to hell ... then perhaps you'll have a better idea of what it can and can't do.
Right now, you are all eating up the great Steve Jobs Show that he is such a master at putting on and starting a frenzy over his products.
I'm not an Apple hater (I love their laptops) but this iPhone mania is gone a little crazy. People are claiming that it can do this, it can do that.
IT HAS NOT EVEN BEEN APPROVED BY THE FCC FOR SALE.
Geez

Isnt the iPhone aimed at devices such as the W950i rather than the P990 ? And although the iPhone has quite a bit of functionality, it's a closed system like the iPod ( I am sure people have repeated this time and over again )

iphone will be successful because of it's branding and name. However it won't take over the market by any means. It will remain niche like apple macs. I doubt iphone will take over the walkman as the dominant "image" phone for music, simply because anyone regardless the size of their wallet can afford an SE Walkman phone.
And as to P990, well, iphone will take very little of P990 market. It won't compete directly. The W950 or it's successor will be the most likely victom of iphone sales (unless iphone is a real flop). But SE can recover from that, because of their budget and mid range walkman phones.

just ran Microsoft Virtual Earth on my pocketpc and it runs incredibly fast. Didn't upset the xda mini at all. If Microsoft are smart enough to design free symbian clients for virtual earth they could completely obliterate the innovation and potential monopoly of Google Earth on the iphone.
Certainly microsoft have nothing to gain by keeping the virtual earth client restricted to pocketpc, since virtual earth access itself won't be a major selling point for WM5 devices, and will only secure a few sales.

The iphone is much hype just like the ipod. But fact is, that the iphone is not even a smart phone, because you cannot load 3rd party apps on it. So it is not an open os. whatyouseeiswhatyouget.
