After the last firmware update and Swiss Manager install, the phone is finally stable and I am reasonably satisfied. I have owned every single P-series model and I am a pretty hard core business user.
The P990i has a number of really significant improvements over the P910i. For me the most important of these are (a) much better camera (still not as good as some Nokia units though); (b) 3G, which is a FANTASTIC improvement for data; (c) much better flip-closed navigation.
What I don't like:
1. Very thick
2. Not enough memory -- still occasional speed problems when multitasking
3. No EDGE data -- I need it in my main area where there is no 3G yet
I like it all right now but I am thinking about trying a Nokia E90 when these come out.

Every time someone takes time to ask something about my phone, i tell them not to get and support sony ericsson because it is a waste of time and its a horrible phone.i try to sway them to stay away from their products. I usually recommend them n95 or n73, e65 and next couple days after i see it in their hands.
i wouldn't be that hard. SE is not that bad, but the UIQ devices "were" good. i sold my p990i as it is just...next stop N95 or a windows mobile one.

If you pick a Windows Mobile phone then you'll notice that something is different on the software support side. Microsoft releases AKU levels which contain bug fixes and new features. Unfortunately it's a rare event for a WM phone vendor to decide to pass one of these updates on to it's customers. Your particular phone may receive one, maximum two updates if you're lucky!

Last week a friend of mine was looking to get a smartphone for her son's graduation. Initially she was thinking Nokia N73, N80 or N93, she didn't really know the differences. Naturally she knew about the P990 so we compared features, still undecided I told her to handle the phones and decide on how the phones feel and their production quality. Well, the winner was P990

The P990 is a turd. The P1 will be the winner.
