@boinng, don`t understand that mate, everyone i know uses both thumbs to text fast on t9, thats two handed.
ok, maybe some people do- but i don't, and i haven't seen it done very often. i don't think it's fair to say this is "usual". it's certainly optional on the t68 (and every other phone in existence) where it apparently isn't on the p800 (unless you multitap, which is slow on any phone).

Sonyericsson or tegic(the t9 licence holders) WILL NOT EVER OFFER T9 ON THE P800.
seems a bit mean. i like t9, and it's not as if the hardware's not up to it.

That's like sealing the coffin with the final nail. Tegic should think of all the money it can make by offering it as a 3rd party appl. Is anyone willing to convey this to them?

Well there are good reasons for them to decide this direction.it is quicker to input on the tiny qwerty virtual keyboard than to use t9 on a phone (even if it does mean two hands, or one hand with the phone on a table) remember it`s a "PDA" phone, so input in this way is familiar with pda users.
I would never have considered buying a non t9 phone before, but i realised that SE coudn`t release a phone like this without t9 unless it REALLY wasn`t needed & it isn`t. i have even timed myself, & p8 is quicker. because if you think about it on t9 it`s one tap for each letter + an extra tap here & there to change a word to an alternative word. but on the qwerty keyboard it`s one tap per letter & thats it. the only extra taps are to change case, but that applies to t9, auto capital starts are also on p8. same as t9. so thats why it`s faster.

3. have you ever seen a camera brick??
4. have you ever seen a musical brick??(mp3)
